“…use any and/or all of the suggested practices to serve humanity. This is the intention of my work, to help people in any way it can”

Mary Overlie, 2020

The Mary Overlie Legacy Project is an association of artists working to preserve and share Mary Overlie's work as well as maintain the Six Viewpoints vitality through community, education and research. Our aim is to propagate encounters with the creative well-spring of the Six Viewpoints Theory & Practice so that artists and people across the globe may be empowered by a greater sense of possibility.

Below is a summary of our current projects, and ways you can contribute to our grassroots efforts:

The Mary Overlie Archive is being prepared to be sent to the Fales Collection at New York University’s Bobst Library. During the pandemic all of these processes have slowed down, however all of her paper work has been organized, digitized and preserved to be kept in an accessible and secure place. The Fales Collection is open to the public upon appointment.

An important part of the Archive is digital: it encompasses Mary's photos and computer files as well as a video archive; a collection of Mary's recorded performances, super 8 films, rehearsal and personal footage gathered from different sources. The Digital Archive will live online and curated programs will be available on the website.

If you have photos, videos or any writing from Mary please write to us at hello@sixviewpoints.com so we can add a copy to the digital archive.

The Brain-to-Brain Trust promotes the intellectual legacy of Mary’s work by supporting the dissemination of her writing and ideas, as well as scholarly inquiry into her work. This includes the preparation of future editions and translations of Standing in Space (currently being translated into Spanish, German and Chinese), and managing permissions to reprint Mary’s writing and/or present her choreographic works.

We will facilitate and initiate publications projects including previously unpublished writings, a compilation of Mary’s choreographic scores, costume designs, diagrams and drawings, a practitioners’ guide to the Hamilton Floor Barre, and On the Horizontal: Mary Overlie and The Viewpoints (forthcoming from the University of Michigan Press).

if you are interested in translating ‘Standing in Space’ or want to use Mary’s writing please contact Tony Perucci tony.perucci@gmail.com

The Six Viewpoints Association builds from our current website. www.sixviewpoints.com is going through some re-art-iculation. It will be a place to find and share resources with the Six Viewpoints community and will also serve as a gathering space to connect us.

Over the years Mary taught her work to hundreds of students. Currently Six Viewpoints workshops are offered all around the world. The website will serve as a centralized place to announce workshops and events, as well as offer a forum to further Six Viewpoints research across the globe.

if you want to host a workshop or an event please fill out our workshop form and we will share it on the website!

The Six Viewpoints Institute is the educational and research wing. The institute will offer training in Hamilton Floor Barre, The Six Viewpoints Theory and Practice, as well as hold research laboratories to incubate art. The Curriculum for this was sketched by Mary before she died and it is organized in modules that can be incorporated into existing programs in educational institutions and centers for performance research.

In concert with the Brain-to-Brain trust , the Institute will convene scholarly symposia and facilitate research and writing that promotes and extends Mary’s investigations into performance

if you are interested in hosting The Six Viewpoints Institute in your region, or if you are interested in including the Six Viewpoints into your program’s curriculum please reach out to training@sixviewpoints.com

If you are in a position to support our efforts to keep Mary's legacy alive, please consider making a tax deductible donation here.

If you are interested in contributing to any of these branches in ways other than a monetary pledge, please reach out to hello@sixviewpoints.com
